We are currently recruiting for two Youth Program Education Assistant I’s to function as Teacher/Counselor Assistant at Wright School. These positions work directly with children, aged 6-13, implementing a therapeutic behavior management system which provides consistent, safe, and therapeutic management. Children may display aggressive, explosive, and externalized behavior. The positions monitor and document safety and security for each child every 15 minutes through direct visual observation during overnight hours. Medication administration and self-care assistance is required. The positions utilize computerize data management systems, manage other treatment documentation, assist teachers/counselors in preparing materials for educational and/or treatment activities that will be implemented in the day or evening programs. Training includes med administration, child development and psychopathology, complex behavioral programming, role modeling, counseling at the point of performance, decision making, crisis intervention, emergency response, language/communication modeling, activities of daily living, maintaining a home-like environment and generalization of skills taught in education and treatment settings.

These are full-time positions and eligible for the full State benefits package. The normal work hours are Monday-Friday, 11:00pm – 7:30am; however, flexibility is required to meet facility needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills.
Ability to establish good working relationships with paraprofessionals, professionals, students and parents, etc.
Knowledge of practical application of task analysis and goal setting for children with attention, oppositional and aggressive behaviors.
Working knowledge of problems and needs of severely emotional and assaultive children and youth.
Ability to establish rapport and respect through established behavioral systems without undue physical control nor an authoritative attitude.
Ability to work and plan with clinical staff in assessing child behavior and planning and implementing treatment plans and physical ability to manage disruptive children and youth without harm to students or staff.
Must be able to pass pre-employment NCI physical requirements testing.

Management prefers experience teaching, counseling or behavioral management, preferably with children and youth with emotional, behavioral or developmental disorders. Experience in re-education program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or high school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Required Training or Certification – As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
