SHAC

Student Health Action Coalition (SHAC) is a student-led interdisciplinary organization that provides free health services to uninsured, underinsured, and underserved persons in local communities.

SHAC operates a medical clinic and a dental clinic. Patients may receive physical exams, child vaccinations, mental health counseling, STD testing and treatment, physical therapy, and other health care services.

Social work students who volunteer with SHAC ensure that the clinics provide person-centered care. They typically provide brief (10-15 minutes) counseling sessions regarding psychosocial aspects of health, employment, housing, relationships, and other concerns. They also direct patients to relevant community services.

The SHAC website offers information on volunteer opportunities for SSW students.
