We are currently recruiting for a Youth Program Education Assistant I to function as a Day Teacher/Counselor Assistant at Wright School in Durham. This position is responsible for the following:

1. Manages student behavior and implements behavioral supports and behavioral intervention systems

2. Plans and Implements therapeutic activities for large and small group work and individual interventions

3. Health care related and Personal Care and Grooming

4. Environment
5. Charting, Recording, Reporting
6. Other duties as appropriate and assigned

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package. The normal work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm, however, flexibility is required to meet facility needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good managerial/organizational skills.
Ability to establish good working relationships with paraprofessionals, professionals, students and parents, etc.
Knowledge of practical application of task analysis and goal setting for children with attention, oppositional and aggressive behaviors.
Working knowledge of problems and needs of severely emotional and assaultive children and youth.
Ability to establish rapport and respect through established behavioral systems without undue physical control nor an authoritative attitude.
Ability to work and plan with clinical staff in assessing child behavior and planning and implementing treatment plans and physical ability to manage disruptive children and youth without harm to students or staff.
Must be able to pass pre-employment NCI physical requirements testing.

Management prefers experience in re-education program; CPR/First Aid certification; CPI certification
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s Degree in human services or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or high school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Required Training or Certification – As required, listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation. As applicable, listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus (effective August 2, 2022)

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
