Job Description Summary

The Staff Counselor/Psychologist serves as a member of a close and collaborative team of mental health professionals who provide comprehensive confidential mental health services to a vibrant and diverse community of undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. Candidates for this position will have a demonstrated ability to provide culturally responsive short-term counseling/therapy and crisis intervention services. Candidates will also be expected to provide consultation to the WFU community. This position is fixed-term through May 31, 2023.
Job Description

Essential Functions:

Provides individual and group counseling/therapy to students at the University.

Conducts crisis assessment and intervention for urgent/walk-in appointments.

Makes decisions regarding referral of clients to campus-based and/or community-based resources.

Provides professional consultation to all members of the University community.

Provides after-hours on-call crisis counseling on a rotating basis, and occasional after-hours outreach as needed.

Keeps timely, accurate, and ethical records consistent with state law, professional ethics, and UCC policy.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Terminal degree in a mental health field (i.e. psychology, counseling, social work, or couples and family therapy).

Licensed/license eligible to practice as a mental health professional in the state of North Carolina.

Demonstrated experience working with individuals with minoritized identities and diverse backgrounds, and ability to use culturally-responsive clinical care.

Knowledge of a broad range of psychotherapy and counseling methods.

Knowledge of and ability to use crisis intervention skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated efficacy with general workplace technology and electronic health records.

Ability to use sound clinical judgment and to manage confidential information appropriately.

Adherence to APA/ACA/NASW ethical codes, UCC policies and relevant state and federal laws.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Experience with mental health provision in a college or university counseling center.

Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace.
