General Description

The Orange County Department of Social Services has an opening for a Social Worker III in the Child Welfare Division. The work involves the responsibility for providing professional social work in Child Welfare as an adoption social worker. Work involves transitioning children in Department of Social Services custody who are free for adoption, from foster care to permanent adoptive homes; recruiting, training, and providing written assessments of an individual or family’s ability to serve as an adoptive parent(s); conducting monthly assessment of child’s well-being needs and engaging community services in response to those needs; maintaining case records by documenting monthly contacts with the child, caregiver, and all other resources necessary to meet the child’s ongoing needs; preparing and submitting adoption documents to Court for the agency, step-parent, or relative adoptions; preparing and submitting bi-annual court reports and Permanency Planning reviews; and reporting on child’s progress toward permanence. An employee is responsible for responding outside normal business working hours.

Work is performed under the general supervision of a Social Work Supervisor with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required.
