The Social Worker will:
Attend weekly meetings with the Triad Public Benefits Practice Group’s team members, monthly partner meetings, and other relevant community meetings.
Provide public benefits ‘check-ups’ and counseling to ensure that Greater Greensboro residents are receiving public benefits from all eligible federal and state programs at the proper entitlement rate or eligibility category.
Identify local resources and assist clients with applications for public benefits and other assistance programs and community resources.
Provide education to community groups and to clients about federal and state public benefits programs and Medicaid.
Conduct targeted outreach for public benefits application assistance to underserved and vulnerable community members.
Report relevant unmet needs to practice group team members.
Establish connections with local Department of Social Services and other relevant agencies and stakeholders.
Help evaluate whether providing direct legal representation or referral may be appropriate.
Qualifications: Candidates applying for this position should have the following qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of social work principles and their application to problems associated with access to healthcare issues.
Ability to establish rapport with clients.
Ability to apply social work principles to conduct thorough needs assessments.
Ability to function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Knowledge of NC’s Medicaid system and federal public benefits programs, such as SSDI, SSI, and SNAP/FNS.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Social Work, or related field.
Preference for applicants having experience working with marginalized populations.
Ability to travel within the Triad Region to meet clients, when necessary.
Salary and Employee Benefits: The salary range for position will be commensurate with the candidate’s competencies and experience. Legal Aid of North Carolina provides excellent health, retirement, disability, and leave benefits. Employee medical, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums are covered at 100% by the employer. Discretionary 401(k) contributions with no match required. Paid leave includes 1.75 days per month (21 leave days in the first two years; 30 days in subsequent years), 12 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, and other paid leave.
