POSITION: School Social Worker (Full-time beginning 2023-2024 school year)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director/School Counseling department chair (member of the student
support services team)
EDUCATION/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: MSW, school social work licensure or able to obtain licensure
PURPOSE: The School Social Worker promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by
providing services that strengthen home, school, and community partnerships and address
barriers to learning and achievement. The School Social Worker significantly contributes to the
development of a healthy, safe, and caring environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The School Social Worker’s principle task is to empower
students, families, and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources that
develop each student’s potential. Integrated into all major functions are home, school,
community assimilation; diversity and cultural competence; dropout prevention; graduation
awareness; and adherence to federal and state statutes, professional development and
practices, School Social Work Standards and the National Association of Social Workers Code
of Ethics.
LEA Roles & Responsibilities
● Collaborate with school counselors in providing individual and group counseling to
address student needs and in response to crises, including suicide intervention and
behavior intervention interviews, plans, and follow up.
● Collaborate with staff members to organize school-wide activities, staff training, and
parent engagement workshops.
● Assist students/families with mental health concerns.
● Assist teachers with behavior management.
● 504 coordinator responsibilities.
● Obtain and review custodial paperwork for students attending Falls Lake Academy, and
inform necessary parties of special considerations or circumstances. Will update
necessary documents as needed.
● Lead support of counselors and administration in addressing attendance truancies, court
supports and home visits as needed.
● Serve as the McKinney-Vento homelessness liaison for FLA. Identify, coordinate
resources for and follow-up with families/students identified as homeless
● Collaborate with counselors and administrators to assess potential abuse/neglect
situations; be willing to make referrals to appropriate outside agencies.
● Liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student needs
● Manages FLA food pantry and tracks food utilized for emergency needs for students on
campus. Contact parents/legal guardians as needed and identify potential barriers to
basic needs.
● Assist counselors, administrators, teachers, etc. with behavior interventions aimed at
Tier 1, 2 and 3 supports. I.e. Small groups, classroom visits (if applicable) and school
wide positive interventions/expectations.
● Perform other related work as required by the executive director and student services
team.
