Position Description
NC Child is seeking a graduate student to work directly with the EarlyWell Initiative Director. The portfolio of this work will be concentrated on legislative affairs and Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health systems and policies. The Policy Intern will analyze and create legislative power maps as well as support specific policy analysis and policy support to EarlyWell and other policy content areas as needed.

The graduate student will have an opportunity to build and strengthen professional skills in writing, research, analysis, organization, and interpersonal communications. The student will conduct research and analysis to develop power maps, factsheets, issue briefs, campaign materials, and other educational resources specific to policy. Additionally, the student will assist in all aspects of the department including qualitative and quantitative analysis, data collection and management, strategic problem solving with the ultimate objective being to develop an understanding of how various administrative policies and legislative proposals affect families and federal and state budgets.

Responsibilities
Conducting secondary research on legislators and legislative districts, and development of power maps;
Policy research/ crosswalk;
Policy brief and fact sheet development for the EarlyWell Coalition;
Support policy strategy research;
Producing written analyses of reviews and data trends;
Help plan meetings with advocates; and
Other necessary project-specific tasks as they arise.
Qualifications and Skills:
Candidates should demonstrate the following required skills and /or traits:

A strong commitment to NC Child’s mission and core values.
Interest in participatory, community-driven research.
Candidate must be a graduate student with experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis and research.
Experience using Microsoft Excel and other Office Suite Products.
Strong analytical and writing skills.
Able to present complex ideas clearly and simply to a wide range of audiences.
Careful attention to detail to ensure accuracy of datasets.

Position Requirements
This position will be remote with the option of in person engagement on an as needed basis. This is a paid, part-time position, approximately 20 hours/week for 12 weeks. The pay rate is $15/hour.

NC Child requires staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Position Type: Part-Time/Temporary (approximately 12 weeks)
Compensation: The pay rate for this position is $15 per hour.
Reports to: EarlyWell Initiative Director
