JOB TITLE: Outreach Specialist at South Memphis Alliance
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Deputy Administrator

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION: 50% Direct 50% Indirect
METHOD OF SUPERVISION:
1. Monthly Supervision
2. Monthly Program Meeting
3. Performance Evaluations

EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, copier, telephone, cutting board, projector.
LOCATION: South Memphis Alliance Administrative Office
HOURS WORKED: Flexible: 30 – 40 hours/week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in social work or other related social services fields acceptable. Peerbased/community – based applicants with a High School diploma or GED, with similar life experiences will be considered as well for this position or equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, or abilities for this position with at least 2 years of relevant experience. Candidate must be culturally sensitive with a passion for helping others. Must be computer literate. Must demonstrate computer proficiency with those software applications essential to this position; Will be required to work a flexible schedule; possibly be available evenings and weekends. Must have a valid driver license and/or Identification Card.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Position requires providing client-driven and strength-based services to families who need resources and
assistance.
• Refers teen to programs, services and resources corresponding to needs.
• Maintain an ongoing relationship with participants to offer counseling and support in formulating and
meeting personal goals.

Outreach Specialist Job Description:
• Maintain an active caseload of 40 (or more) participants.
• Use a Wrap Around model for support and care in obtaining individual goals (educational, mental
health, substance abuse, workforce development, parenting/relational health).
• Responsible for facilitation/co-facilitation of group sessions such as financial education, sex education,
goal setting, life skills and job readiness.
• Conducts follow-up with all Opportunity Passport participants to ensure that we (SMA and young
person) are working in concert to achieve the participant’s stability goals.
• Case manages all the pregnant/parenting teens in the Opportunity Passport Dream Seekers program.
• Maintain all data in the Opportunity Passport Database in a timely manner.
• Responsible for maintaining weekly and monthly reports to be submitted to Supervisor in a timely
manner.
• Cultivate and nurture strategic community-school partnerships with residents, local institutions, and
community-based businesses.
• Must have knowledge of social services systems, knowledge of resources, good organizational, timemanagement and communication skills.
• Must possess the ability to work well independently as well as part of a team; works in partnerships and
relationships with key community leaders, supporters, and advocates. Connectors should ensure
program quality, transparency, and accurate reporting.
• Facilitate individual’s self-esteem through positive interactions and building a relationship of trust.
• Demonstrate positive behavioral management techniques and communicate with individuals in a
person- centered, age-appropriate manner.
• Engage person served in meaningful community activities that assist people in developing the skills and
support to promote positive personal growth.

SKILLS:
1. Communication: ability to speak, write, and communicate in a clear/concise manner. Maintain
open lines of communication with Program Manager.
2. Outreach/Networking: Network effectively with organizations and individuals; both adults and
youth.
3. Interpersonal skills: Maintain effective interface with businesses and other programs within the
community and South Memphis Alliance staff.
4. Software Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Assists in development, planning, and implementation of educational programs and training.

1. Provides sexual education and financial literacy to youth.
2. Provides information and referral services to clients, and family members.
3. Train new Intern Educators on group topics and outreach skills.
4. Create and maintain attendance and performance reports for intern educators in a timely manner.
5. Attend Health Fairs and be prepared to speak about different South Memphis Alliance programs.
6. Develops brochures, educational, print, and non-print awareness materials for prevention.
7. Develop and implement special projects for National Foster care Awareness Month.
8. Occasionally presents to groups and after school activities on weekends. Plans and develops
education curriculum to meet community needs.
9. Supervisory skills required, able to be team leader of 2 – 15 people.
10. Driving is necessary for outreach work.
11. Flexibility is important, events may occur which will require staying late or coming in earlier than
usual.
12. Be able to communicate well with co-workers, different organizations, and teens.
13. Coordinates with other agencies’ outreach prevention programs.
14. Restocking books in the pinwheel playroom area, refilling condom containers, restocking job
listings, and contacting new agencies to temporarily occupy SMA’s social suds resource center.
