Lead Faculty – The Lead Faculty is a full-time position at this statewide organization responsible for
revising, developing, implementing, and delivering the curriculum, programming, seminars, and interseminar engagement for each William C. Friday Fellowship for Human Relations class (the organization’s
flagship program). Additionally, the Lead Faculty will collaborate and support other WLI work or events
in line with the stated mission, vision, and values of the organization. Regarding the Friday Fellowship,
each class will be unique, and the Lead Faculty will work with the Director and Board of Advisors to
continually refine each class experience. The Lead Faculty reports directly to the Director and will work
collaboratively with other WLI staff on development and direction of all program content and activities
furthering WLI’s interrelated organizational design and goals.
Major Responsibilities
Fellowship Program
• Coordinate, refine and execute this two year in-person training in core competencies, values,
principles, and skills.
• Oversee nomination, application, and selection of Friday Fellows with the input and guidance of
the Director, Board of Advisors, and committee members.
• Facilitate, teach, guide, and direct each seminar retreat to ensure the implementation of the
fellowship curriculum.
• Research and align latest in leadership development theory and network leadership theory into
curriculum to ensure the program remains current, effective, and in alignment with
organization’s mission, vision, and values.
• Collaborate with staff, guest faculty, or others to design seminars that implement and realize
organizational values.
• Conduct training and small group facilitation.
• With the advice and consent of the Director, hire, supervise, and evaluate possible contract or
guest faculty or others to assist with these duties.
• Co-manage the program on-site at retreat locations in North Carolina with WLI staff, site staff,
guest faculty, or others.
• Create materials, readings, assignments, learning opportunities, and collaborative projects for
class member engagement between seminars.
• Document the Fellowship program experience in multiple ways (multi-media, written, etc.) to
allow class members to refer back to curricular experiences during and after a class cycle is
complete.
• Oversee and manage coaching or other personal development of class members.
• Co-manage logistics for the program in consultation with the Director and with the support of WLI staff.
Fellows Network
• Work collaboratively and support other WLI staff to intentionally create the circumstances and
opportunities for Fellows of current and previous classes to connect in ways that align with the
unique experience and programming of the current class.
• Communicate and meet regularly with other WLI staff to effectively accomplish appropriate
integration of the current class themes, theory, and practices into WLI’s overall work, and the
engagement of WLI staff, board, and volunteers with Fellows of prior classes.
Fiscal Management
• Develop and submit program budgets to Director for approval.
• Manage program expenditures within approved budget.
• Reconcile and provide documentation for program expenses.
Program Evaluation
• Establish outcomes for components of Fellowship program and evaluate progress with intent of
demonstrating various forms of impact in multiple time intervals.
Other Responsibilities
The Lead Faculty shares responsibility with the Director for developing an appropriate public profile for
the William C. Friday Fellowship for Human Relations. This includes collaboratively creating and
implementing marketing materials and strategies, serving as spokesperson, and networking with other
nonprofit organizations, press outlets, corporations, leadership programs and networks, funders, and
other relevant institutions and partners. Cross-train continually with the Director to fulfill each other’s
duties in a collaborative way that supports each other and ensures the effective operation of the
organization.
Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications
• Deep understanding and commitment to North Carolina, Wildacres Leadership Initiative, and
the William C. Friday Fellowship for Human Relations mission, vision, and values.
• Ability and willingness to create and hold spaces for differing beliefs and belief systems.
• Understanding of, and adeptness with, group dynamics and group process evaluation skills.
• Demonstrated history of successful group facilitation.
• Strong knowledge and experience in adult experiential leadership education.
• Professional and personal style consistent with the philosophy of the organization.
• 6-8 years professional experience in relevant work such as leadership development education,
adult training and facilitation, teaching, program conception, development, and
implementation.
• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work with people across all differences.
• Effective team management and evaluation.
• Superior communication skills, with ability to relate to diverse constituents.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Effective presentation and outreach skills.
• Understanding of, and experience with, program evaluation.
• Familiarity and adeptness with systems thinking and adaptive leadership preferred.
Other Requirements include
• Current driver’s license and ability to travel throughout North Carolina.
• Some weekend and evening work including at least three 4-day weekend retreats per year at
locations throughout the state.
Compensation:
$62,000-$65,000 salary; additional health insurance stipend paid as salary;
45 days per year paid time off; no separate medical package; employer-paid retirement contribution
after 12 months
