Job Description Summary

Wake Forest University Counseling Center (UCC) seeks an experienced mental health professional to provide strong, inclusive leadership with an innovative vision for mental and emotional wellbeing for our Reynolda campus community. The UCC Director provides collaborative leadership for all aspects of the UCC’s functions including clinical operations, personnel management, budget management, assessment and evaluation, and program development. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Health & Wellbeing, the Director is a member of both the Health & Wellbeing Leadership Team and the Campus Life Leadership Team, and participates in a wide range of university committees, particularly those related to community health, safety, and wellbeing.
Job Description

Essential Functions:

Works collaboratively with Health and Wellbeing team, and other Campus Life units to implement campus life strategic goals.

Oversees and administers all clinical, operational, and financial aspects of the University Counseling Center.

Provides clinical and administrative supervision to UCC mental health professionals, graduate trainees, and administrative support staff.

Provides clinical consultation to the WFU community (students, staff, faculty, families) regarding effective management of student mental health issues and well-being.

Serves as a leader at the university regarding mental health and well-being.

Collaborates regarding ongoing evaluation of client outcomes and overall service delivery.

Offers individual and group counseling and psychotherapy to Reynolda Campus undergraduate and graduate students.

Coordinates and participates in rotation for on-call after-hours response for psychological emergencies.

Coordinates clinical assessment of students who may pose a threat to the community.

Facilitates professional development of staff to ensure alignment with best practices in mental health care on a college campus.

Serves on Campus Life and University committees as needed, particularly as it related to safety, mental health, and wellbeing issues.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Terminal degree in a mental health profession.

Licensed/license eligible to practice independently as a mental health provider in the state of North Carolina.

Minimum ten years of experience as a mental health provider.

Previous mental health leadership and/or supervisory experience.

Demonstrated success working with and implementing mental health or emotional wellness programming with diverse populations.

Demonstrated leadership using data-driven decision making to inform effective programming for young adult populations.

Demonstrated clinical skills including effective use of brief psychotherapy or counseling models, crisis intervention skills, clinical supervision and consultation with cross disciplinary teams.

A history of practice in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, ethical codes, and procedural policies.

The ability to lead and manage successful projects and implement efficient systems.

The ability to manage financial and personnel resources effectively.

The ability to work collaboratively with partners and establish relationships with important stakeholders.

Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Experience in a senior administrative role in a counseling center.

Previous experience as a mental health provider in a higher education setting.

Ability to engage in quantitative and qualitative assessment to measure population needs and service efficacy.

Ability to recruit and develop excellent professional staff.

Positions that report to the Director: Associate Director/Clinical Director of the University Counseling Center, Associate Director/Training Director of the University Counseling Center, Associate Director for Community Engagement, Staff Psychologist/Counselors, counseling and psychology trainees, Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Director of Specialized Services/Safe Office Director, Safe Office Counselor/Advocates, Safe Office After Hours Responders, Graduate Student Employees.

Budgetary responsibilities: Salary and Operations Budget of University Counseling Center and supportive oversight of Safe Office Budget with Safe Office Director.
