What sets VA apart?

Diverse Areas of Practice

As you look into the world there are many employment options to consider. VA is set apart from other organizations by its breadth of practice. Here at VA social workers have to opportunity to remain with the same employer while experiencing different areas of direct practice with diverse populations. A few areas of social work practice available to staff at the Salisbury VA include medical social work, geriatric care, outpatient mental health, substance abuse services, and social work with homeless Veterans.

Continuing Education and Evidence Based Practices

The Salisbury VA provides staff with the needed continuing education to maintain social work licensing. The VA also frequently offers the opportunity to engage in trainings and certifications in the most current evidence based practices. These include specialized training in PTSD treatment , mindfulness techniques, and whole health initiatives. For newly licensed social workers clinical supervision is also provided.

Social Workers as Leaders

Other places of employment often require social workers to be supervised by other disciplines including psychologists, nurses, or medical doctors. By applying to be apart of the Social Work Service Line here with the Salisbury VA you will have a leadership team that shares your professional mindset and code of ethics. This allows for greater clinical growth and better communication with your leaders.

It is helpful for the individual to include a copy of their LCSW or LCSW-A (if licensure # is not already listed on resume). If they are not licensed they can still apply but would need to be working toward obtaining LCSW-A.
