Position Summary

The Bilingual Court and Community Response Advocate will support Compass Center’s efforts to expand court and legal
advocacy services to better reach and meet the needs of underserved domestic violence survivors including but not
limited to Latinx and LEP survivors and rural Orange County residents. This staff member will attend DV court weekly
(Hillsborough), support the DV crisis line, and participate in outreach/advocacy efforts with underserved groups.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

● Assist Spanish-speaking and limited English proficiency (LEP) survivors in civil and criminal domestic violence
court by providing crisis intervention, active listening, legal information, advocacy, and community referrals
● Assist with civil and criminal court docket preparation, conduct pre- and post-court follow-up with clients, and
assist with initial 50B applications, expiration reminder calls, and renewals
● Assist with planning and facilitation of monthly or bimonthly community task force (DVSARC)
● Maintain statistical records and proper documentation on clients served
● Participate in daytime DV crisis line rotation and assist with Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) calls
● Assist with outreach projects designed to elicit feedback from and improve court advocacy and community
response efforts for underserved Orange County communities experiencing domestic violence including
Spanish-speakers, LEP residents, and rural residents with limited access to services due to transportation and
other barriers

Qualifications

Required:
● Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English.
● Availability to attend court in-person in Hillsborough NC on Thursdays between 8:30am-1:30pm
● Experience providing services to victims of interpersonal violence and/or underserved populations
● Commitment to racial equity and antiracist work, especially within the legal system

Preferred:
● Experience working within the court system
