School hosting Idealist Graduate Degree Fair Nov. 12 at Friday Center

The UNC School of Social Work is hosting an Idealist Graduate Degree Fair at the Friday Center on Saturday, November 12, from 9 a.m.-noon. Idealist fairs, held throughout the United States and Canada, connect prospective students with graduate schools in fields such as public administration, international affairs, education, public policy, public interest law, social work, nonprofit management, global and public health, theology, environmental science, and socially responsible business.

School of Social Work helps Durham Public Schools address students’ mental health needs

Durham youth will soon have more access to needed mental health services and treatment.

Thanks to the success of a pilot support project at C.C. Spaulding Elementary, Durham Public Schools will be adding mental health workers to seven other schools this year. The sites include six elementary schools—Bethesda, Burton, Eastway, Eno Valley, Merrick-Moore and Spring Valley—and Lakeview, the district’s secondary alternative school that serves students in sixth through 12th grade.

Saturday's picnic cancelled

Due to the rainy weather forecast for tomorrow (Sat., Sept. 24), the School of Social Work's annual potluck in Wilson Park has been cancelled. The event will be rescheduled for the spring semester.

Six of our faculty among 100 most influential social work journal authors

The British Journal of Social Work has published a study, "Influential Publications in Social Work Discourse: The 100 Most Highly Cited Articles in Disciplinary Journals: 2000-09," that includes six UNC School of Social Work faculty members.  The article appears in the Journal's July 7, 2011 issue.

The study surveyed 79 social work journals published during the past decade and identified the 100 most cited articles. The list includes:

School to hold annual Open House on Sept. 19

The UNC School of Social Work's annual Open House for prospective students will be held Monday, Sept. 19, 2011 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The Open House provides an opportunity to learn about our curriculum, field placements, financial aid and admissions requirements. The event will begin with registration and a light reception, followed by a program in the auditorium.
