School Offers Virtual Welcome Weekend Events

The UNC School of Social Work will host three virtual Welcome Weekend events next week, giving all MSW admitted applicants the opportunity to learn more about the MSW program. The virtual sessions are being offered due to the widespread impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students who have been accepted to the program can register online HERE for one of the following sessions:
•    Tuesday, April 7, 5:30 – 8:00pm
•    Thursday, April 9, 10:00am – 12:30pm
•    Thursday, April 9, 2:00 – 4:30pm

Each session will include an overview of coursework, field education and life at UNC-Chapel Hill, said Assistant Dean for Recruitment, Admissions and Financial Aid Sharon Holmes Thomas. Admitted applicants will also get the chance to hear from and ask questions of senior administrators, including Dean Gary Bowen, Senior Associate Dean for MSW Education Lisa de Saxe Zerden, and Associate Dean for Student Affairs Sarah Naylor.

Registered applicants will also have the opportunity to hear from current MSW students during virtual breakout sessions.

Although the virtual events will operate differently than the School’s traditional Welcome Weekends, which are held each spring, Thomas said the programs are designed to offer incoming students as much support as possible.

“Welcome Weekend has always been a time for new admits to not only meet our amazing faculty, staff and current students, but to connect with one another as a cohort and to begin building relationships,” Thomas said. “We are pleased that we can still bring these students together, even in a smaller, virtual format.”
