The Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research (JSSWR) is joining the distinguished family of journals published by the University of Chicago Press. Dr. Jeanne Marsh, president of the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR), praised the move, noting that the Press brings significant resources to JSSWR, an online peer-reviewed journal published since 2009.
The Press will begin publishing JSSWR with the March 2014 issue.
“This partnership offers JSSWR many benefits,” said Marsh, “including high production standards, sales and marketing opportunities, high-tech journal design, online hosting of the journal archives, as well as the prestige and acumen associated with being a member of one of the premier academic publishers in the world.”
JSSWR is dedicated to presenting innovative, rigorous original research on social problems, programs, and policies. The journal was created to offer authors a venue for the timely dissemination of empirical findings and advances in research methods.
With the move to the Press, JSSWR will expand to a hybrid publication with both online and print versions. Online access to JSSWR will remain a benefit to SSWR members, with the journal available to others by subscription. In addition, JSSWR will be available to download as an e-journal for a variety of e-readers and computers.
Since its inception, JSSWR has sought to strengthen the rigor of social work research and advance knowledge in social work and allied professions and disciplines. In partnering with the Press, JSSWR intends to extend its influence.
UNC School of Social Work Distinguished Professor Mark Fraser, editor-in-chief of JSSWR, said, “From the start, we have been committed to making JSSWR a top journal in social work. This move to the University of Chicago Press is not only a giant step forward for JSSWR but also for social work research.”
Founded in 1891, the University of Chicago Press is widely known as a publisher of some of the world’s foremost scholarly journals. JSSWR joins the Press’ distinguished roster of more than 50 periodicals that present leading-edge research in the social sciences, humanities, education, biological and medical sciences, and physical sciences.
JSSWR, a quarterly publication, is the official journal of the Society for Social Work and Research. More information about JSSWR at the University of Chicago Press.
