Visit

The Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building (TTK), the primary home to UNC School of Social Work, is on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We encourage you to visit!

Throughout the year, we offer info sessions for individuals who want to learn more about our degree programs and the admission process. If you would like to visit at another time, please contact our admissions staff to schedule your visit. Most of our students participate in field education off-campus on Wednesday and Thursdays, so if you visit on those days, you may not be able to experience classes and other student activities.

About Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill is in central North Carolina and is two miles south of I-40. Together with neighboring cities Durham and Raleigh, Chapel Hill forms one point of North Carolina’s Research Triangle, the headquarters for many technology firms. Although Chapel Hill is a small town that retains a “village” atmosphere, the area offers world-class amenities, including performing arts, professional sports, festivals, three major research universities, and a diverse cultural scene.

The physical address for Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building is 325 Pittsboro Street, Chapel Hill, N.C., 27516.

Please note that Pittsboro Street is a one-way street, with traffic traveling north to south only. Its south-to-north “partner” street is Columbia Street, which passes by to the east of TTK and leads directly to downtown Chapel Hill.

TTK is between McGavran-Greenberg Building (which serves UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health) and FedEx Global Education Building. There is a State Employees Credit Union branch office directly across Pittsboro Street from TTK.

Bus Stops

The nearest bus stops are located on Pittsboro Street directly across from TTK and on Columbia Street in front of the Health Sciences Library. These bus stops are served by several Chapel Hill Transit routes locally, as well as by GoTriangle and PART commuter routes.

Parking

Illustration: Walking Path from Dogwood Deck to Tate-Turner-Kuralt BuildingParking is very limited at UNC-Chapel Hill, and most parking lots require permits. Adjacent to TTK, there is a very small parking lot with two metered visitor spaces, including accessible parking.

For daytime parking, visitors are encouraged to use the Dogwood Deck, which is directly across from the UNC Hospitals complex and within three blocks of TTK. Please allow 15 minutes to walk from the Dogwood Deck to TTK, using this route:

  1. Exit Dogwood Deck on Manning Drive, turn left and walk to Columbia Street.
  2. Turn right on Columbia Street and walk to Health Sciences Library.
  3. Use the crosswalk at Health Sciences Library to cross Columbia Street.
  4. Look for a brick path that circles to the right side of the building ahead. Follow this path between the Rosenau and Kerr buildings (see illustration). TTK is the five-story building directly behind Kerr Building.

You can also board a Chapel Hill Transit bus on Manning Drive, exiting the bus at Health Sciences library. This will save steps but not time!

There is a $1.50/hour fee to parking at Dogwood Deck (subject to change).

For nighttime parking, most UNC-Chapel Hill parking lots offer a $1 temporary pass for the night (regardless of hours). This temporary pass is not available for the Dogwood Deck but may be used for the Nash (N-7) parking lot, which is one block from TTK. Driving Directions to Dogwood Deck

Manning Drive is a major four-lane street that passes the UNC Hospitals complex, as well as several dormitories and other campus buildings. Dogwood Deck is the main public parking deck for the hospital — look for directional signs along Manning Drive.

From the east:

  1. Take I-40 west to Exit 273-A.
  2. Follow NC 54 west to Chapel Hill.
  3. Exit onto US 15-501 traveling south.
  4. Turn right onto Manning Drive and follow it into campus. Dogwood Deck will be on your left.

From the south:

  1. Take US 15-501 north to Chapel Hill (within the town limits, it’s Columbia Street).
  2. Turn right onto Manning Drive. Dogwood Deck will be on your right.

From the west:

  1. Take NC 54 east to Chapel Hill and stay on the bypass.
  2. Exit onto US 15-501 traveling north (within the town limits, it’s Columbia Street).
  3. Turn right onto Manning Drive. Dogwood Deck will be on your right.

Tip: If you are traveling on I-40, you can also use the “From the north” directions by exiting south at NC 86.)

From the north:

  1. Take NC 86 south to Chapel Hill (within the town limits, it’s MLK Boulevard).
  2. Pass through downtown Chapel Hill and turn right onto Cameron Avenue.
  3. Turn left at the next stoplight onto Pittsboro Street. (You’ll pass TTK on your left as you travel on Pittsboro Street.)
  4. Bear left when Pittsboro Street splits (in about two blocks).
  5. Go through the Columbia Street intersection onto Manning Drive. Dogwood Deck will be on your right.
