Jamal Appiah-Kubi is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He obtained his Ph.D. in Social Policy from the Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University in Turkey and is a recipient of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities award. He also has an MPhil in Social Work from the University of Ghana. Dr. Appiah-Kubi’s research is anchored around social protection interventions and policy innovations that enhance the resilience of marginalized and underserved individuals, families, and communities to overcome their economic, social, educational, and health vulnerabilities. He has taught for nearly a decade and also has significant experience training social work field supervisors. Dr. Appiah-Kubi has consulted on several social protection research projects and WHO-funded evaluation projects. At UNC-Chapel Hill, Dr. Appiah-Kubi is a member of the Financial Capability and Asset Building team working on several projects to test and scale interventions to bolster the financial security and resilience of vulnerable individuals, families, and communities in Sub-Saharan Africa and the United States.
