Alyssa Draffin (she/her) has served as a UNC School of Social Work adjunct instructor since 2021 and joined the School’s full time faculty in 2022, after serving more than a decade in the field, providing direct practice and integrated behavioral health services. She has extensive experience working with individuals and groups living with HIV, post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic medical conditions and genetic disorders as well as functional symptoms related to trauma. She has most recently worked with children, adolescents and families experiencing social barriers to care.
Alyssa is formally trained in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s intervention W.I.L.L.O.W. and in multiple therapeutic modalities. As a certified clinical supervisor with the National Association of Social Workers and a certified clinical trauma professional, she has facilitated LCSWA supervision groups for the last five years, helping prepare new graduates on their licensure journey.
Alyssa has won six grants over the last three years through the Carolina For the Kids grant, seeking to address health disparities for low income families. Additionally, she has a clinical interest in neuroplasticity as a convergent mechanism of alternative therapies.
