Rebecca Macy, Ph.D., was honored as a “Hometown Hero” with the Village Pride Award, given by WCHL radio on July 28. Macy is the associate dean for academic affairs and the L. Richardson Preyer Distinguished Chair for Strengthening Families. She was honored for her work to strengthen families in our community through the MOVE program, which stands for Mothers Overcoming Violence through Education and Empowerment. Listen here

Clinical Assistant Professor Bebe Smith was quoted in an Aug. 17 Daily Tar Heel article, “UNC researchers find genetic link to schizophrenia.”

Research Professor Paul Smokowski, Ph.D., was quoted in an Aug. 7 WMBF TV news story, “18 murders this year, Robeson County has state’s 6th highest crime rate.”

Doctoral student Laurie Graham, MSW ’11, was honored on Aug. 8 as a “Hometown Hero” with a Village Pride Award from WCHL radio. Graham was formerly the program director at the Orange County Rape Crisis Center, and this semester entered our doctoral program. Listen here
