Professor Sheryl Zimmerman has been invited to serve as a member of the steering committee for the 2nd triennial National Research Summit on Care, Services, and Supports for Persons with Dementia and their Caregivers.
A national leader in the field of aging, Zimmerman was tapped to serve on the committee because of her expertise in conducting applied research to improve the care of older adults with cognitive impairment and dementia. Her service to this committee will include co-chairing a session focused on care settings, environments, and transitions.
The two-day summit is scheduled for March 2020 at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Md., and will focus on critical scientific research priorities for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. In addition to presenting the state of the science, the summit will highlight promising research findings, identify research gaps, and gather input from participants on what’s needed to improve the quality of care and outcomes across aging care settings.
This will be the second time Zimmerman has been invited to participate in the national event. She was a guest speaker for the first summit in October 2017 and presented on “Dementia Care in Residential Long-term Care.”
