Alumni briefs: Cedarleaf, MSW ’80; Powers, MSW ’87; Colville, MSW/MPH ’05; Meier, Ph.D. ’99; MacDonald, MSW/MDiv ’10; Rotabi, Ph.D. ’05

Glenda Cedarleaf, MSW ’80, recently published a book on Amazon, “A Guide to Writing and Recording Guided Imagery Meditations: 70 Healing Scripts included.” The book offers ideas and inspiration for therapists, teachers, clergy and coaches for using meditation and imagery in their healing work with clients, students and patients.

Mary Jo Powers, MSW ’87, was named director of Four Seasons Home Care in Flat Rock, N.C. Home care offers services to assist individuals in need, including with driving to get groceries, changing linens, showering and bathing, and light housekeeping.

Kathy Colville, MSW/MPH ’05, was recently interviewed for a FOX8-TV feature on “Creating Healthier Communities for Children.” Colville is the health communities director for Cone Health in Greensboro.

Andrea Meier, Ph.D. ’99, continues to live in Boulder, Colo., where she founded, Flourish! Personal Coaching Services, and works as a positive psychology-based life coach. Meier, who retired as a research faculty member at the School 10 years ago, has earned certifications as an International Coach Federation Professional Certified Coach and Energy Psychology coach. She has also developed specialized expertise in positive psychology coaching, wellness coaching, adult ADD coaching, dissertation coaching, and career transitions coaching (including retirement). She is particularly proud of having coached 60 doctoral students to dissertation completion. Since retirement, she has remained busy as a writer as well, publishing two academic journal articles and five book chapters.

Angela M. MacDonald, MSW/MDiv ’10, was recently promoted to system director at Mission Integration for CHRISTUS Health. Christus Health is an international Catholic, faith-based, not-for-profit health system comprising of almost 350 services and facilities, including more than 60 hospitals and long-term care facilities, 175 clinics and outpatient centers and dozens of other health ministries and ventures.

Karen Smith Rotabi, Ph.D. ’05, and research colleagues from Elon University and the University of Idaho have been investigating the parent-child separation crisis on the southern border of the United States. The team expects to publish its findings in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Human Rights and Social Work.
