Advanced Standing Program

The Advanced Standing Program is for students who have graduated from an accredited BSW program. Orientation and classes typically begin the 2nd week of May, following the university's registrar calendar. Advanced standing students enroll in the summer, taking 13 credit hours:

  • SoWo 709: HBSE Module (1.5 credit hours)
  • SoWo 719: Research Module (1.5 credit hours)
  • SoWo 739: Brief History of Oppression and Social Work Policy Module (1.5 credit hours)
  • SoWo 799: Direct Practice and Community, Management, and Policy Practice Module (1.5 credit hours)
  • SoWo 522: Advanced Standing Practicum (4 credit hours)

and one of the following:

  • SoWo 740: Implementing Evidence-Informed Practice for Individuals, Families, and Groups (3 credit hours) - for Direct Practice concentration students, or
  • SoWo 770: Implementing Evidence-Informed Practice with Organizations and Communities (3 credit hours) - for Community Management and Policy Practice concentration students

The remaining 27 hours are completed in the Advanced Curriculum in the student's chosen concentration. Advanced standing students meet the same distributional requirements as full-time and distance education students
