Job Description

The goal of the counselor is to assist in the navigation of emotions of Sustainable Alamance
participants to help gain self-awareness, while identifying possible mental or emotional
conditions that negatively impact transition to successful employment.

To take it a step further, the counselor will also work with the client to take that self-awareness and use that knowledge to build a more positive personal mental health experience.

The counselor will utilize client focused sessions to explore the social, emotional, and mental challenges the participants face during reentry.

The counselor will focus on working through the various layers of emotional, physical, and
mental trauma to work towards the overall goal of producing healthy coping techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Counsel clients and patients, individually and in group
sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life after incarceration, and
successfully making changes.

Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, and tests. Act as client
advocates in order to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.

Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports. Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment. Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems. Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge. Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans. Evaluate clients' physical or mental condition based on review of client information, and provide input to Executive Director regarding readiness for full time employment referral. Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed in order to comply with changes in clients' status.

Position requires a master's degree in counseling or social work, and be licensed in the state of NC for the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders. Position requires an understanding of the justice system and the collateral consequences of having a criminal record.
