Zerden selected for Academic Leaders Network

Lisa de Saxe Zerden, senior associate dean for MSW education at UNC School of Social Work, is one of five University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus leaders seLisa Zerdenlected to participate in the ACC Academic Leaders Network (ALN) program for 2019-2020.

Zerden will join UNC colleagues Misha Becker (chair, linguistics department), Julie Byerley (executive vice dean, UNC School of Medicine), Patricia McAnany (chair, anthropology department) and Mary McClurg (executive vice dean, Eshelman School of Pharmacy) in a series of networking and collaboration sessions with ALN participants from other universities.

ALN was founded in 2018 to build leadership capacity in and facilitate cross-institutional academic collaboration among participating universities in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

ALN sessions for 2019-2019 will be hosted by University of Pittsburgh (October), Florida State University (February) and North Carolina State University (May). At each host site, participants will tour the campus, meet with the host university’s president/chancellor and provost and engage in conversations about current challenges.

Zerden is the first UNC School of Social Work faculty member to be selected for the ALN program. She joined the faculty in 2010 and is a graduate of Boston University (Ph.D.), University of California at Los Angeles (MSW) and George Washington University. She leads the School’s involvement in interprofessional education and practice on the UNC campus and was named in 2017 as a John A. Tate Early Career Scholar for Children in Need.

Zerden also serves as principal investigator for the $1.9 million UNC-PrimeCare project, funded by the federal Health Resources and Services Administration.
