Social Worker – Integrated Pediatric Mental Health


The Integrated Pediatric Mental Health (IPMH) team in Duke’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a social worker (LCSW or LCSW-A) to support several ongoing initiatives. A key focus of this position will be working collaboratively across several departments and clinical services, including pediatric primary care and family medicine services, pediatric specialty care services, emergency services, and other relevant systems.

Work Performed

Interview patients, their families and other concerned parties to obtain information about personal, social and environmental history. Assist with screening, identification, diagnosis, management, and treatment of mental health conditions in patients and family members. Provide training to other health care professionals in same.

Provide education to providers, patients and families around issues related to adaptation to the patient's diagnosis, illness, treatment and/or life situation. Arrange, procure, and coordinate patient/family pre and post hospital needs.

Prepare and maintain a case record for each patient to describe the nature of social problems and services suggested or provided. Assist patients and their families, through individual or group conferences, to understand, accept and follow therapy plans; provide services planned to improve or restore patients to optimum social and mental health.

Maintain liaison with relevant medical providers and community agencies; participate in area activities related to health and welfare services.

Participate in multi-disciplinary health care teams and provide leadership in representing clinical social work perspective.

Accept on-call responsibilities for after-hours coverage if required. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications


Work requires a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work. Candidates with comparable training and experience (e.g., Master’s in Psychology) may also be considered.
