Associate Director


Description of Work: The Associate Director works in partnership with the Executive Director to guide Senior PharmAssist and is responsible for general management of the clinic. S/he shall have administrative and management duties, in addition to some direct care responsibilities. The Associate Director reports to the Executive Director.

All work is directed toward the agency’s mission: Senior PharmAssist promotes healthier living for Durham seniors by helping them obtain and better manage needed medications and by providing health education, Medicare insurance counseling, community referral, and advocacy.

Typical Duties:


◆    Works with the Executive Director to recruit and hire staff members

◆    Directly supervises the Clinical Services Director, the Community Services Director, and the Health Resources Coordinator and the receptionists

◆    Works with these staff members to develop and evaluate short- and long-range work plans

◆    Works with interns and volunteers as appropriate

◆    Ensures that staff and volunteers are provided on-the-job and professional training

◆    Ensures that all staff members in supervisory roles have the support they need to guide other staff, volunteers, and students towards fulfillment of program objectives

◆    Coordinates staff meetings, in-services, and special gatherings

◆    Contributes to the agency newsletter, website, and other outreach activities

◆    Represents the agency in various community settings with partner organizations


◆    Works with the Executive Director to formulate and implement policies to ensure the efficiency of the clinic so that staff, volunteers and participants are well-served

◆    Oversees the clinic schedule working closely with several staff members

◆    Works with clinical staff to provide tailored community referrals and retiree/Medicare health insurance counseling; Senior PharmAssist is the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) coordinating site for Durham

◆    Assists with the evaluation of program services, providing oversight of data entry and extraction with the participant database (FMPro)

◆    Works with the staff to ensure the efficient use of the organization’s resources, including information and technology systems

◆    Works with the Clinical/Community Services Directors to ensure HIPAA compliance

Qualifications and Performance Standards

◆    Master’s in Public Health or related field

◆    Minimum of five years of management experience

◆    Demonstrates organizational and leadership skills to effectively manage team members with various roles

◆    Communicates skillfully in written and oral form with diverse populations
