School to host "Silence Sam" documentary

grayscale graphic image of protesters at monument

UNC School of Social Work will host a free screening of the short documentary "Silence Sam" on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018. The documentary explores the student-led movement to remove the "Silent Sam" monument on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus and the University's response to that movement.

"Silent Sam" was removed by that movement during a protest on Aug. 20. This screening event was scheduled before the statue's removal and is part of the School's Social Justice Series of speakers and other events, led by the Jordan Institute for Families.

Students at the UNC School of Media and Journalism produced the documentary and will participate in a panel discussion after the screening. Dinner will be provided before the screening.
