Cuddeback to coordinate Tate Talks series

Gary Cuddeback, Ph.D.The popular Tate Talks lecture series at UNC School of Social Work has a new leader. Gary Cuddeback, Ph.D., will assume responsibilities for the series on July 1, 2018. Cuddeback replaces Mark Fraser, Ph.D., who founded the series and is retiring this summer.

Inspired by the "think big" philosophy of John A. Tate Jr. (for whom the Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building is named in part), the Tate Talks explore emerging ideas and concepts in social work and social welfare. Speakers represent the most cutting-edge knowledge in their fields, with a strong emphasis on evidence and methodology. Recent talks have included "A Computational Social Science Perspective on Qualitative Data Exploration: Using Topic Models for Descriptive Analysis of Text" and "The 'Practice Doctorate' Degree: Implications for Social Work Education, Research and Practice." (Learn more about Tate Talks here.)

Cuddeback is an associate professor at UNC School of Social Work, where he coordinates the MSW/MPH dual degree program. He also serves as director of the Community Outcomes Research and Evaluation Center and a research fellow with the Sheps Center for Health Services Research.
