Student Coordinator Job Description

Boomerang is a youth support organization that seeks to inspire youth to bounce back from challenges and move toward positive change. We are hiring 2 Student Coordinators to provide support services to students in STRIVE, a program that works with middle and high school students at risk of disengaging from school. Our culture is very important to us. We are looking for team members to join us in creating a safe, positive space for young people where they identify their strengths and move past their challenges.

We are hiring for 2 vacancies, one starting ASAP primarily in Chapel Hill, and one starting in August primarily in Hillsborough. The schedule for this role is 8am-3pm, M-F.

Part Time $16.00/hr

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Delivery

• Lead the implementation of STRIVE activities for students, including skill building activities around social-emotional learning, and academics
• Manage daily student flow: maintain control of and account for the daily whereabouts and safety of students attending Boomerang, supervise students during a routine schedule of activities and ensure students’ transitions between activities
• Lead or co-lead skill building groups and actively encourage students to participate
• Strictly follow Boomerang guidelines in interacting with youth both on and off duty
• Interact with staff and parents/guardians in a professional manner at all times
• Ensure that youth leave the program at the end of the day with authorized parents or guardians or according to parent/guardian instructions
• Lead intake and wrap-up meetings with students, parents, and school staff.
• Provide guidance and oversight to interns and volunteers throughout program day
• Conduct follow-up services with students, either in-person at schools or virtually, after they have completed our program.

Administrative

• Be responsible for completing required paperwork (student folders, data input as needed, evaluations, etc.) associated with the program
• Other duties as assigned by Program Manager or Executive Director

Qualifications:

• High School diploma, required (B.A. in human services preferred)
• 2 years of experience working with youth, required
• First Aid and CPR Certified (we will organize training if needed)
• Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in facilitating small groups
• Skill and experience in managing youth and ability to provide positive redirection and boundary setting
• Working knowledge of serving youth who have had behavioral difficulties and may have experienced trauma, substance use and/or school/home challenges
• Strong ability to work independently, and balance administrative and youth work duties
• Ability to interact effectively with the governing board, staff, family members, the court system, and other partner agencies
• Ability to perform job duties in a culturally competent manner
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
