Sr. Staff Specialist Payroll and Accounting

Nonprofit Agency in Orange County, NC
Responsible for all aspects of Payroll and Accounting including:
General ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, semi-annual sales and use tax submissions, 1099 reporting and other accounting and business office functions. Payroll is 50% of the job.
Reviews accounting data, identifies and corrects errors, identifies and computes accruals, applies accounting principles to transactions and recommends revisions in accounting procedure to ensure compliance with applicable statutes, laws and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Assist in all month-end and year-end closing procedures, including account reconciliations and preparation of journal entries to ensure financial systems output is consistent, accurate, complete and timely.
Manage the outsourced payroll processor in the processing, administration and payment of payroll, payroll taxes and other payroll related functions in accordance with federal and state rules, regulations and deadlines.
Ensure departmental compliance with internal controls and processes over transactions and financial reporting to ensure safeguarding of organization’s assets.
Purchasing and PO support
Expense reporting support
Interface with management and staff to resolve issues and/or problem solve
Prepare and perform ad hoc financial reports and analyses as requested.
internal and/or external audit preparation to include analyzing general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors
Assist Director in the administration of cash management processes and the maintenance and monitoring of operational cash flow.
Assist the Director in the preparation of the annual budget.
Act as managerial liaison between the business office and the other departments within the organization.
Maintain a safe work environment.
Arrange for maintenance agreements and maintenance calls on all office equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Multitasking and organizational skills are a must.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or similar discipline
2 years Payroll experience
2 yrs experience in accounting and business office management; management of payroll process strongly preferred
Quick books and accounting software experience
Strong working knowledge in computer applications including accounting software and office applications
Ability to effectively interact with customers, vendors and clients.
$45,000-50,000; FT; Nonprofit Agency;
