The Brunswick County Department of Social Services is looking for a Social Worker to join the agency. This position performs social work functions in the Permanency Planning Unit, working with children in the custody of the Brunswick County Department of Social Services. Duties include working with parents, caregivers and community partners to help stabilize foster care placements and establish permanency for children in the custody of the department in a timely manner. The person in this position attends court regularly, prepares reports for the court, develops case plans, and maintains documentation and paperwork according to State and agency policies. The social worker must have the ability to interpret law and policies and use sound judgment to determine the direction of the case and make decisions. Must be able to effectively communicate with all types of people and share important information clearly and concisely. This position requires the candidate to utilize critical thinking skills, be willing to have difficult conversations openly and honestly with resistant clients; keep accurate, detailed and timely written records and have impeccable time management skills. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; or a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling or a related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, groupwork or community organization; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines, which include typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pound of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
