The Social Work Practitioner is a School of Medicine employee, but will function as a consultant to county child welfare agencies. This position will provide guidance and oversight to all 100 counties in the management of high-risk child welfare cases which overlap with medical issues.
The SW Practitioner will be involved with reviewing and consulting to counties during intake as well as assessment. The SW Practitioner will oversee the following types of cases:
Injuries in young children < 3y.
Sexual abuse concerns for children <3y.
Substance affected infants
Medical child abuse/Munchausen by Proxy
Cases involving children with complex medical issues including children with psychiatric issues, chronic disease, children receiving multiple medications as well as children with developmental disabilities
Cases of sexual abuse involving sexually transmitted infections
Additionally, this position will develop educational materials in the form of protocols, webinars or in-person training to be provided to county child welfare agencies. This position will provide training medical aspects to child welfare with rostered CME clinician. This position will build relationships between medical providers and hospital systems to ensure more timely reporting, access to medical documents and interpretation of medical notes/findings.
