Position Type: Part-time
Closing Date: May 31, 2023

The Penn Lab has an exciting opportunity for social workers and social work students looking to gain experience in delivering digital mental health interventions!

Beginning late summer/early fall 2023, we will be launching another open trial of the Horyzons platform with young adults experiencing a first episode of psychosis (FEP). Horyzons, developed by John Gleeson, PhD, Mario Alvraez-Jimenez, PhD, and the Orygen team in Australia, is a novel digital environment that merges peer-to-peer social networking, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and expert moderation to promote social integration, improve self-esteem and well-being, and reduce loneliness. To date, Horyzons has been rolled-out in Australia, the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. Additional information about the platform is available in the attached articles.

We are looking for individuals interested in serving as online therapists on the Horyzons platform. Each online therapist will have an assigned caseload of young adults with FEP who are receiving treatment at one of four FEP early intervention clinics in North Carolina. Online therapists will be expected to complete the following activities on a weekly basis (not exceeding more than 5 hours/week) for the length of the trial:

– Conduct twice daily safety checks on assigned weekdays and once daily on assigned weekend days, on a rotating schedule;
– Develop an individualized plan of use for Horyzons with each client;
– Meet with online clients approximately once every other week to discuss goals and activity on Horyzons;
– Send Horyzons therapy content tailored to clients, as needed;
– Consult with client’s in-person clinical team, as needed;
– Consult with peer specialists in the platform’s Community space to bolster engagement;
– Attend weekly supervision meetings with Dr. Penn

Individuals who serve as online therapists will be paid $15/hour. Please reach out to Elizabeth Fraser (erfraser@unc.edu) if you are interested in joining the Horyzons project as an online therapist or have additional questions
