JOB SUMMARY: The Lead Social Worker is responsible for providing coordination of training, clinical guidance, resources, and assistants as outlined by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s regulatory requirements associated with their Social Worker licensure. As the Lead Social Worker, you will carry a caseload providing case management, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management. The Lead Social Worker will provide counseling services, develop IEPs, and work with families on a plethora of matters related to school and outside of school issues, as well as major point of contact for families to stay in contact with the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works with those problems in a child’s living situation that affect the child’s adjustment in school (home, school, and community).
Provides counseling (group, individual and/or family) including mentoring services
Mobilizes family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program.
Team with Behavioral Specialists as well as other staff members as needed, in aiding and supporting students.
Student attendance monitoring and completion and submission of all reporting (including attendance intervention plans, CFSA and /or Court Referrals) as mandated by attendance/truancy policies
Maintains accurate and confidential records
Services to Students:

Provides crisis intervention.
Develops intervention strategies to increase academic success.
Helps child(ren) develop appropriate social interaction skills.
Transport students to and from work assignments, field trips, other outside learning experience, etc.
Services to Parents/ Families:

Works with parents to facilitate their support in their children’s school adjustment.
Alleviates family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school &community.
Assists parents to access programs available to students with special needs.
School Liaison:

Provides professional development and works closely with all staff, as needed, regarding the social and emotional needs of students
Obtains and coordinates community resources to meet students’ needs.
Identifies and reports child abuse and neglect.
Provides case management for students and families requiring multiple resources.
Other job-related duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Master’s in Social Worker (MSW).
D.C. Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) required.
Must have a minimum of 3 years working as a Licensed Social Worker and knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations for serving in a school setting.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:

Ability to read and interpret test instruments, guides, and literature.
Must possess strong reasoning and problem-solving skills.
