The County is currently accepting applications for the position of CPS Social Worker.
This position investigates or assesses complaints of alleged neglect and abuse of children
based on a Multiple Response System (MRS) according to required time frames; engages
with families using Family Centered Practice and the Principles of Partnership in order to
make a two-level decision regarding the need for ongoing intervention through in-home or
out-of-home services; provides expert testimony in court hearings; works in cooperation
with law enforcement agencies as required; performs holistic assessments of individual and
family dynamics, crisis intervention, and referrals for recommended or needed services
including possible placement of children in out-of-home settings; provides quality
documentation of all case activity and intervention in a timely manner; and works in crisis
situations where decisions may often occur under pressure or in a hostile environment.

Requires a Master’s Degree in Social Work and one year of human services work
experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive
counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning; or a Bachelor’s
Degree in Social Work and two years of work experience; or a Bachelor’s Degree in a
human service field and three years of work experience; or an equivalent combination of
education and experience; a Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work with
completion of the N.C. Child Welfare Collaborative Program will equal one year of
experience credit. Degrees/Coursework must be from an appropriately accredited
institution. If degree is not in Social Work, please submit a copy of transcript with
application. Bilingual applicants and applicants having completed 72 hours of Pre-
Service Training are preferred. A valid driver’s license is required.

Starting Salary $53,300 – $58,700 (commensurate with experience) and excellent benefits
package available.
