Deborah (Debbie) Barrett, PhD, LCSW is a clinical associate professor in the School of Social Work and the School of Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry. In the School of Social Work, she has taught courses in the foundation and concentration programs. In 2005, she launched the clinical lecture series to provide learning opportunities to students along with area practitioners. Over the years, she grew and expanded these programs and now serves as Director of Continuing Education (CE), supporting the School’s implicit curriculum and CE programming in evidence-based practice, social justice and advocacy, and the intersection among these. She also provides individual psychotherapy and group interventions for people with chronic pain and distress at the UNC Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic.
