Behavioral Health Springboard

Behavioral Health Springboard (BHS) is an initiative at UNC School of Social Work that links current research to training programs across North Carolina. These programs address substance use prevention and treatment, problem gambling, and other issues in behavioral mental health.

In addition to its face-to-face and online educational programs, BHS offers curricula development, technical assistance, and program consultation. These services help organizations design effective service delivery systems and assist with the transitions necessary to implement evidence-based practices for improved client outcomes and systems efficiencies. BHS administers its own website.

BHS Training Opportunities

“Problem Gambling — Sure Bet” training is a series (Levels 1 and 2) of two-day workshops for mental health professionals, including psychologists, clinical social workers, therapists, and counselors, as well as clergy, school administrators, peer support specialists, and others who are interested in learning about problem gambling.

“Clinical Supervision” training is a five-part series of one-day workshops for Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialists who are interested in enhancing their skills as a clinical supervisor and, possibly, seeking to obtain or renew their Certified Clinical Supervisor status.

BHS offers free and fee-based online courses that address many different topics related to mental health, including “Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders,” “Group Home Employee Skills Training,” “Quitting Tobacco Too,” and “Working with Children with Both Behavioral Health and Speech/Language Challenges.”

The NC Certified Peer Support Specialist Program is an initiative of the NC Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services. BHS provides training and other assistance for this program.
