The North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-NC) has selected Cordelia B. Steele, MSW ’89, LCSW, BCD, of Rockingham, as recipient of the 2011 Social Worker of the Year Award. This honor is given annually to a social worker who has demonstrated commendable social work practice in both professional and client communities.
With over 30 years of service in rural social work practice, Steele has served as a consultant, administrative and clinical supervisor, mentor, educator, policy developer and community organizer. She is an assistant professor in the Human Services Technology Curriculum Program at Richmond Community College in Hamlet, N.C., where she has been instrumental in developing several human services courses. Steele is also a contractual clinical director at Trinity Services, a mental health provider in Rockingham.
“Her attention and dedication to mentoring and boosting new and aspiring social workers is noteworthy,” said Aaron Swart, MSW ’08, in a press release issued by NASW-NC. “She has quietly and steadily worked to pass on invaluable social work skills to other social workers, as well as demonstrating the integrity of the profession.”
