Lackmann to retire from state service this month

School of Social work clinical associate professor Lisa Lackmann is retiring from state service at the end of the month. Lackmann has worked with Behavioral Health Springboard (BHS) since 2013, serving as a child mental health consultant to the N.C. Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services. In this role, she has developed online and in-person trainings for the child and adolescent behavioral health workforce.

“Spending much of her time in Raleigh, Lisa has been the go-to person when it comes to researching best practices and utilizing resources to fit a need,” praised Tara Bohley, director of BHS.  “She was instrumental in bringing several evidence-based models to youth-serving providers in North Carolina.”

Over the years, Lackmann has also brought new collaborative projects to the School, including initiatives involving associate professor Paul Lanier’s evaluation team, the Family and Children’s Resource Program, the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities, the Carolina Office for Online Learning, Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute’s Impact Center, and UNC-Greensboro.

An early champion for the role of social workers in integrated care, Lackmann led the design of the first MSW course on pediatric integrated care. This course became required study as part of the federally-funded UNC-PrimeCare program.

Over the course of her career, Lackmann has served in a variety of public service positions with the Orange-Person-Chatham Area Program, including as a child and adolescent outpatient therapist, family resource counselor, in-home worker for therapeutic foster parents, system of care project director, child case management supervisor and system of care coordinator.

Following her retirement from state service, Lackmann plans to return to the direct services field and will be working with Duke Pediatrics and HealthySteps, which promotes the health, well-being and school readiness of babies and toddlers.

Congratulations Lisa on your retirement, and best wishes in her next venture!
