Courtesy and Prevention Social Worker

General Definition of Work

This position will be responsible for a variety of roles within the child welfare unit including performing courtesy and conflict requests from other counties for all program areas, handling prevention and outreach services, serving as back-up to other CPS functions (including CPS and APS intake) and initiating CPS assessment cases. Position may provide outreach services to adults as well. Position will monitor the safety of children in their homes where neglect or abuse has been identified, conduct assessments that accurately identify strengths and needs of the family system and assess risk of continuing harm to the children. Position will work to strengthen the family’s capacity to protect and nurture the children through referrals to community resources, assisting with applying for services and model and support appropriate behaviors that will enhance family functioning. Position will document case information thoroughly and timely and provide consistent contact and follow-up with families.

Essential Functions

• Applicant must have knowledge of child welfare policies and practices.
• Applicant must have excellent oral and written skills.
• Applicant must be able to communicate effectively with individuals from varying cultures and backgrounds via phone and through personal contact.
• Applicant must have computer proficiency and must be flexible to accommodate varied task assignments.
• Applicant must serve as an after-hours on-call worker in rotation with other workers.
• Applicant must be able to manage conflict, remain neutral and fair, engage people and build trust, and promote collaboration and consensus.
• Other duties may include providing parenting support to families and the facilitation of Child and Family Team meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• The ability to use best practices, strategies, professional judgment, and time management skills in complex situations is essential.
• Candidates who are trained as CFT facilitators &/or in Triple P or other parenting curricula are encouraged to apply.
• Fluency in Spanish desired but not required. English speaking applicants should apply.

Education and Experience

MSW from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative; MSW from an accredited school of social work plus one year directly related experience; BSW from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative plus one year directly related experience; BSW from an accredited school of social work plus two years directly related experience; four year degree in a human service field plus three years directly related experience; four year college or university degree plus four years of directly related experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, hearing, using hands to finger, handling, feeling, reaching with hand and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking and occasionally requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately quiet location (e.g. business office).

Special Requirements

Must have a valid NC driver’s license.

Additional Information

Ideally the position will work from 10:00am-7:00pm but this schedule is negotiable.

This position is open until filled.

Salary for this position is $59,377 annually.
