Flick’s instruction in Mental Health First Aid Training receives top awards

The National Council for Behavioral Health has named clinical associate professor Jodi Flick a “Top Mental Health First Aid Instructor,” for 2018 and one of the Top 100 MHFA Instructors of All Time.

Flick is among more than 12,000 instructors across the country leading a public education program that teaches the risk factors and warning signs of mental health and substance abuse problems.

The mental health course focuses on the common risk factors and warning signs of anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and schizophrenia. Through practice and simulations, the classes teach participants how to offer initial help in a mental health or substance use crisis using a five-step action plan.

Flick was selected for the top honors based on the total number of people served through MHFA training sessions. Over the past few years alone, Flick has taught Mental Health First Aid classes to more than 1,000 UNC faculty, staff and students. Congratulations Jodi for the well-deserved awards!
