School to host memorial service for Matthew Howard on Feb. 2

The UNC School of Social Work will host a memorial service to celebrate the life of Dr. Matthew O. Howard, Ph.D., on Saturday, Feb. 2, in the auditorium of the Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building. Friends and colleagues are invited to attend the service, which will be 2-4 p.m. There will be a light reception immediately following the service.

Howard, the Frank A. Daniels Distinguished Professor for Human Services Policy Information, died on Dec. 15, 2018, following a lengthy hospitalization. Read the family’s obituary here.

Born in 1956, Howard also served as an associate faculty research fellow for the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC. He joined the School of Social Work in 2007, after three years as a professor of social work and a professor of psychiatry at the University of Michigan. At UNC, he served as associate dean for faculty development at the School of Social Work (2012-2015) and as associate dean for doctoral education (2016-2018).
