Alumni briefs: Casalotti, MSW/MPH ’09; O’Brien, Ph.D. ’16; Ermentrout, MSW ’04; Daye, MSW ’09; Stephens, MSW ’18; Goddard, MSW ’83

Adriane Casalotti, MSW/MPH ’09, recently joined the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) as their chief of government and public affairs. Casalotti is a seasoned public health and public policy professional with extensive legislative, policy analysis, strategic communications, and advocacy experience at the federal and state levels. She comes to NACCHO from the Food and Drug Administration, where she helped lead the agency’s work with Congress on a broad range of policy topics and high‐profile issues, including passage of the FDA Reauthorization Act and implementation of the 21st Century Cures Act. Casalotti was also recently quoted in the Center for Health Journalism article, “L.A. clinic says immigrants scared to get care after ‘public charge’ controversy.

Jennifer O’Brien, Ph.D. ’16, was featured in the WABE National Public Radio article, “A look at the number that launched a fleet of anti-trafficking buses.” O’Brien is an assistant professor in the Department of Social Work and research associate at the Crimes against Children Research Center (CCRC) at the University of New Hampshire.

Dania M. Ermentrout, MSW ’04, and her family were featured in the January/February issue of Mother Jones magazine about the challenges that families face caring for children with complex medical needs in a woefully inadequate health care system. Adrian Daye, MSW ’09 was recently appointed director of the Alamance County Department of Social Services (ACDSS). Daye, who was a N.C. Collaborative Leadership Scholar, has been with ACDSS for more than 25 years and has held numerous positions, including children services program manager, assistant director for services, and most recently, deputy director.

Ashley Stephens, MSW ’18, is a clinical social worker for Central Regional Hospital in Butner, N.C.

Peter William Goddard, MSW ’83, died peacefully at his home on Dec. 26, 2018.
