Goode co-investigating study with UNC Center of Excellence in Eating Disorders

Assistant professor Rachel Goode is serving as a co-investigator on a $3.75 million, five-year grant that was awarded to UNC to establish the Center of Excellence in Eating Disorders.

Goode will work with principal investigator Christine Peat, assistant professor of psychiatry in the School of Medicine, and with other UNC faculty from psychology, psychiatry and adolescent medicine, on the multidisciplinary project. Supported by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the center will develop a “web-based platform that will train healthcare providers across disciplines in the evidence-based identification and management of eating disorders,” Peat said.

The funding will also support the center’s efforts to become a national resource for eating disorder literacy.
Goode’s overall research focuses on improving treatment and healthy outcomes for African American women who have struggled with obesity. As co-investigator of the center’s project, she will provide content to inform the treatment of eating disorders among Black women.
