Summer Institute explores how research can support best practices

The Jordan Institute for Families co-hosted its first Summer Institute on Implementation Science with the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) and the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute on June 13 and 14. More than 120 people from across the country and from Ontario attended the inaugural event, which focused on helping participants better understand how research findings can be used to support best practices in the social work and public health professions.

The summer institute included plenary presentations that focused on, among other topics, why implementation science is important, opportunities for bridging practice and research to improve outcomes, and how implementation science can be used to promote equity and social justice. Attendees also participated in afternoon breakout discussions that addressed issues and challenges such as organizational readiness, co-learning with communities, and continuous improvement tools.

The event offered the Jordan Institute the opportunity to amplify its mission by extending social work training beyond the academy walls into communities with NIRN’s goal to support the development and use of evidence to improve outcomes for children and families.
