Alumni briefs: Ives-Rublee, MSW ’09; Pettus-Davis, Ph.D. ’11; Howell, MSW ’97; Latta, MSW ’78; Williams, MSW ’83

Mia Ives-Rublee, MSW ’09, was featured in a magazine spread for Glamour’s 2017 Women of the Year issue. Ives-Rublee was among the women honored for organizing this year’s Women’s March in Washington, D.C. Ives-Rublee also accepted the award on behalf of her Women’s March colleagues during the magazine’s awards ceremony in New York City on Nov. 13.

Carrie Pettus-Davis, an assistant professor at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, was featured in the St. Louis KPLR 11 article, “New initiative being spearheaded to reform criminal justice system to help felons gain employment.”

Kristen Howell, MSW ’97, is the new chief executive officer of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Denton County, Texas. Howell was featured in an article in The Cross Timbers Gazette in Denton County, Texas, about her new role as CEO.

Phyllis Hines Latta, MSW ’78, died on Oct. 20, 2017, at Hospice of High Point.
Ray Vance Williams Jr., MSW ’83, died on Nov. 1, 2017, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare Center in Wilmington.
