Alumni briefs: Spencer, MSW ’17; McDonald, MSW ’16; Garland, Ph.D. ’09

Nora Spencer, MSW ’17, presented, “Want to Attract and Keep Top Talent? Think Like a Designer,” at this summer’s Network for Social Work Management conference. Her presentation focused on how to use innovative problem solving tools to develop a strategic recruiting and retention plan in nonprofits and public agencies.

Donald McDonald, MSW ’16, was recently selected “Tar Heel of the Week” and featured in the Raleigh News and Observer article, “This former addict is working to help others overcome their addictions.”

Eric Garland, Ph.D. ’09, associate dean for research at the University of Utah’s College of Social Work, was recently named director of a new Center on Mindfulness and Integrative Health Intervention Development. The center will focus on unifying research on mindfulness and other integrative behavioral health interventions.
