Alumni briefs: Messinger, MSW ’96, Ph.D. ’99; Johnson, MSW ’98; Finger, MSW ’02

Lori Messinger, MSW ’96, Ph.D. ’99, was awarded a fellowship for the 2017-18 academic year by the American Council on Education. Messinger is one of 46 fellows, nominated by the senior administration of their respective institutions, selected following a rigorous application process. Messinger is the current associate vice chancellor for community engagement at UNC-Wilmington. Michelle Johnson, MSW ’98, was recently recognized as a WCHL “Hometown Hero.” Johnson, who has served on the Carrboro Board of Aldermen since 2011, recently announced that she is stepping down from the elected position to pursue employment opportunities in Portland, Ore.

William R. Finger, MSW ‘02, recently published his memoir, “The Crane Dance: Taking Flight in Midlife.” Finger has been editor of a public policy quarterly, a consultant for the N.C. Legislature, and from 1989 to 2013, a writer and communications manager at an international public health organization.
