Alumni news: Black, MSW '70; Krueger, MSW '99; Ives-Rublee, MSW '09 and Martinson, MSW '10

MaryAnn Black, MSW ’70, has been appointed to serve as the new representative of state House District 29. Black, associate vice president for community relations at the Duke University Health System, is expected to replace Rep. Larry Hall D-Durham, who was recently named Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Military and Veteran Affairs by Governor Roy Cooper.
Kirsten Krueger, MSW ’99,  is an international public health program manager and research utilization specialist with nearly 20 years’ experience in family planning/reproductive health. Krueger serves as technical advisor for FHI 360 and has expertise in using data for decision making, knowledge management, and capacity building. She recently wrote about her work on women’s health in Africa in “Beyond research: Using science to transform women’s lives.
Mia Ives-Rublee, MSW ’09, was recently featured in “Disability activists amplified: Social media gets the job done,” on CNET.com. Ives-Rublee works as a research assistant at UNC.
Noah Martinson, MSW ’10, is an assessment coordinator and licensed clinical social worker at N.C. State University. Martinson, another counselor from the center and several NCSU students worked with a Durham-based production company to produce the suicide prevention video “#StoptheStigma,” which the Nashville Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently recognized for an Emmy for excellence in visual storytelling.
